It’s Time for Back-to-School Eye Exams

The long-awaited school year is just around the corner, and our Vold Vision team is gearing up for back-to-school eye exams with appointments available throughout the week and on Saturdays! Unfortunately, it is common for our optometrists to examine children who do not realize that their blurry vision isn’t normal, simply because their eyes slowly adjusted into the new prescription leaving it unnoticed to the child and undetected by the parents. The most frequent way parents are notified is when their child begins to share they are now having trouble seeing the white board from their desk or dropping grades on their report cards. With being out of the classroom for six months, these flags may not be raised until August or September when the hustle of the new school year has begun.

“As much as 80 percent of a child’s learning occurs through their eyes,” Dr. Holden, Vold Vision Optometrist stated. “Meaning that undetected vision problems can decrease a child’s participation and negatively impact their performance in class and with extracurricular activities. Additionally, it’s important to be aware that basic screenings from school or pediatrician’s office are not an adequate determination of the functionality of a child’s vision. To help children reach their highest potential, it’s really important they have the highest quality of eye care.” Dr. Holden also shared that after multiple months out of the classroom due to COVID, this year’s back-to-school eye exam is more important than ever.

Here at Vold Vision, we have an incredible team dedicated to pediatric eye care. If you would like to schedule your child’s eye exam, please speak with one of our team members about scheduling.
