Meet Dr. Vold
Dr. Steven Vold is an award-winning, board-certified ophthalmologist based in Northwest Arkansas with over 24 years of experience. As an innovative vision professional in the industry, he specializes in complex glaucoma and cataract diagnosis and treatment, as well as groundbreaking laser vision correction treatments. Dr. Vold is known for his passion and dedication to his patients and strives to make every patient comfortable and happy with their results. Listed in the Consumer’s Research Council of America’s Guide to America’s Top Ophthalmologists consistently since 2002, Dr. Vold is proud to be considered one of the leading professionals in the industry. He currently serves as the Chief Medical Editor of Glaucoma Today, the leading national publication for physicians, and co-founded the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery. He also publishes distinguished journal articles, lectures on the latest techniques, and is frequently written about in the press for his groundbreaking procedures and research. Dr. Vold co-founded Ocunetics, Inc., a Silicone Valley-based medical device company. His invention was recently licensed and fully funded by IRIDEX Corporation, a well-established and reputable publicly traded ophthalmic company. He has been instrumental in the development of numerous other products that are now on the market based on his creative efforts.
Specialties and Skills
With a wide range of skills, Dr. Vold is known as an innovator in the ophthalmology field. While he focuses on complex glaucoma and small-incision cataract surgery, he is also skilled in diagnosing and treating many other eye diseases. He is an expert in laser vision correction surgery and was the first eye surgeon in the state of Arkansas to offer SMILE, advanced laser treatment. Dr. Vold is particularly skilled in laser retina surgery, refractive surgery, cataract surgery with lens replacement operations, glaucoma drainage, and filtration, and implant surgery. His practice also offers intraocular lens surgery and bladeless corneal refractive surgery. Always pushing for better, faster results, Dr. Vold was the first surgeon in the country to perform a variety of advanced procedures, including new, noninvasive glaucoma and laser correction surgeries.
Education and Training
With an academic record as illustrious as his professional one, Dr. Vold has distinguished himself at every level of his career. Graduating from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota with a major in Biology, Dr. Vold went on to the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. Here, he graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a group that recognizes the top ten percent of medical students in the nation. Afterward, he completed an ophthalmology residency and a glaucoma fellowship at the Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. With numerous scholarships and academic awards, Dr. Vold has held himself to the highest of standards throughout his education and beyond.
Professional Memberships
Dr. Vold has memberships in many professional groups that contribute to the quality of his career. He is a Fellow with the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and a member of the American Board of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Vold also co-founded the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery. Locally, Dr. Vold is a member of the Arkansas Medical Society and the Arkansas Ophthalmologic Society. Continuing research throughout his career, Dr. Vold takes part in the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology as well as the Society for Excellence in Eyecare. Lastly, he is a member of the Texas Medical Association and the Texas Ophthalmological Association.
