Additional Glaucoma Treatments Reviews
"I have been dealing with Glaucoma for the past 25 years. I was put under the care of Dr. Laura Voicu at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. She treated me for 18 months and performed Trabeculectomy surgeries on both eyes. Both surgeries were very successful. Dr. Voicuis a very compassionate, knowledgeable, and caring Physician and Surgeon. She is very thorough and carefully explains all aspects of your care. Of the numerous Doctors that have treated my Glaucoma she stands above the rest.Outstanding. I highly recommend Dr. Voicu for the treatment of Glaucoma."- T.D. / Google / Oct 30, 2017
"My son is 24 and was born with glaucoma. He had surgeries on both eyes when he was 3 1/2 and never had any issues until a year ago. We had shunt surgery and went through 7 different eye drops and his pressures never went down instead they were gradually climbing. We heard about Dr. Vold and went for a visit from Maryland. Dr. Bold does lots of glaucoma research, perfects new surgeries and fights for FDA approval. He has 25+ experience in ophthalmology! He scheduled a Visco 360. 3 months later, my son’s pressures are back down to normal. After 4 different doctors telling us there wasn’t much we could do, Dr. Vold helped us with this state of the art surgery. We loved Dr. Vold’s staff and his surgery center staff. It’s quick and easy having a doctors visit and surgery in one place. We are very pleased!"- B.K. / Facebook / Jan 08, 2019
If you are over the age of 60, female or have a history of glaucoma in your family, you run a statistically higher risk for glaucoma than others might. Additionally, if you smoke, consume excessive alcohol, don’t eat a healthy diet and are overweight, your risk also increases. There is no method to ascertain if you are suffering from glaucoma until vision loss starts occurring. Therefore, it is imperative that you have regular eye exams so that Dr. Vold and his team can ascertain if you have elevated interocular pressure before it progresses to irreversible optic nerve damage and vision loss.
Vold Vision offers several treatments, ranging from eye-drops to surgery. First, is breakthrough medication in the form of eye drops, which can either reduce the amount of fluid being produced or help the existing fluid drain from the eye. These medications are very targeted and help patients forgo the stress of surgery. Laser treatments are another safe and noninvasive way of reducing eye pressure in a matter of minutes, allowing you to go home the same day. Laser treatments for glaucoma can also wear off over time, so a regular schedule of treatments is necessary to continue progress. Finally, surgery is the last option to manage glaucoma. The simplest surgical therapy is a trabeculectomy where essentially, the surgeon makes a hole in your eye to drain the excess fluid, and creates a whole new drainage system for the eye to help stop the progression of glaucoma. Another type of treatment places a tube in your eye to help the drainage of fluid even more. Both treatments have similar success rates.

What to Expect
Expectations around glaucoma treatments cover an extremely wide range of variables and differ depending on which treatment you are receiving. Every type of treatment has distinct recovery protocols so your team at Vold Vision will be with you every step to guide you through each one. Their mission is to constantly have an open dialogue with you before, during and after treatment. Many of the risks associated with the various treatments are exceedingly rare and the vast majority of glaucoma surgeries are successful at stopping the damage from continuing while attaining optimal eye pressure.
Whatever treatment you receive, your vision may actually worsen as your eyes adjust to the after-effects. However, the goal is to have your vision return to its pre-treatment acuity, but then most importantly, not get any worse. For the first two weeks, you may need to reduce the normal level of activity to which you are accustomed. Full recovery can take anywhere from 1-3 months depending on the treatment. It is also of primary importance to check in with Dr. Vold should any signs of infection develop.
