What is Oculoplastic Surgery?

The oculoplastic surgeons at Vold Vision perform cosmetic and functional eyelid surgery on the upper or lower eyelids or both. Eyelid surgery removes excess skin, readjusts or removes fat pads, and reduces the appearance of bags beneath the eyes.

Once complete, patients appear more rested and youthful. In cases where eyelid surgery is needed for functional reasons, such as impaired vision, patients achieve clearer peripheral vision as well as an improved physical appearance.

Eyelid surgery could take between 45 minutes and two hours, depending on the amount of excess skin and the primary goal of the treatment. If you are combining other oculoplastic procedures, it could take longer.

Cosmetic eye surgery is performed under general anesthesia, so the procedure is painless. Blepharoplasty removes the excess skin on the upper or lower eyelids, readjusting the fat pads, and rejuvenating the facial features around the eyelid. It does not adjust the eyebrows or forehead.

After your surgeon at Vold Vision removes excess skin, the patient will have better peripheral vision and a more youthful and rested physical appearance. Following surgery, you may experience some discomfort, which you can manage with cold compresses and pain medication.

Eyelid surgery improves lives through cosmetic and functional purposes. Functional and aesthetic benefits of oculoplastic surgery include:

  • Improved peripheral vision
  • Reduced under-eye “bags”
  • More youthful, awake appearance
  • Facial rejuvenation
  • Immediate and long-lasting results

Total recovery from eyelid surgery typically lasts up to three weeks. You will experience some swelling and bruising, easily managed with cold compresses and pain medication. Sleeping with your head elevated may help reduce swelling. You should apply cold compresses for the first 24 hours and refrain from wearing makeup for the first week following treatment.

To be considered a candidate for cosmetic eyelid surgery at Vold Vision, you should be healthy with realistic expectations about the outcome of your surgery. You should schedule a consultation at our facility to discuss the benefits and risks of the procedure.

During the one-on-one consultation with your surgeon, feel free to candidly discuss your aesthetic goals to learn more about our oculoplastic treatment options.

As your surgery is customized to your needs, the cost varies from patient to patient. Vold Vision accepts several payment methods and is proud to accept medical financing partners like CareCredit®.
