About Retina Treatments
Vold Vision, one of the premier vision centers in the country, is staffed with a skilled team of board-certified, fellowship-trained eye surgeons led by Dr. Steven Vold, who are all dedicated to the health and well-being of your vision. This includes vision loss or complications due to a condition that might affect the retina. Our experienced team at Vold Vision is on a mission to not only provide unmatched retinal care but to do so with such a level of compassion that you’ll feel like part of the family instead of just another patient. This is especially crucial when dealing with emotions surrounding the onset of retinal issues such as age-related macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy.
"Just had the Smile procedure done. The whole process was extremely simple and very well explained before hand. The staff members are very nice and informative. The procedure it’s self was fast and painless. In less than 24 hours my vision is already nearly 20/20 and still getting better. I can see things far more clearly and in much greater detail than I ever could in my contacts. If you’re looking to have this procedure done, I would definitely recommend Dr. Vold and his excellent staff!"- S.H. / Google / Jan 29, 2021
"I began to have double vision about a year ago. I am pretty upbeat but started to get really sad. I used to dance and enjoy the space around me but now I had trouble even walking around the room or down stairs. then I was referred to Dr. Napier. she operated on my eyes and I could immediately see better. my eyes were working together again!!! I feel empowered and plan to start a new diet and exercise program and dancing to the Cheetah Girls DVD with ankle bells on. Thank you Vold Vision and Dr. Napier."- S.M. / Facebook / Jan 29, 2021

With over 7 million cones, up to 150 million rods, three layers of nerve cells, and two layers of synapses – all packed into a complex membrane a half-millimeter thick, the retina is unbelievably complex. As a result, many things can and do go wrong with it for many people. AMD, or age-related macular degeneration, is the most common cause of blindness for people over the age of 65. Diabetic retinopathy, on the other hand, causes more blindness in people under the age of 65 than any other retinal issue. Other common conditions include retinal vascular occlusions, flashes and floaters, retinal tears and detachments, macular pucker, macular holes, vitreomacular traction, and uveitis.
The main benefit of treating eye disorders is that we can focus directly on the affected area. This reduces side-effects that could harm or affect another area of the eye. After a thorough eye exam and diagnosis, many patients are able to use medication to start their treatment if the disease has not advanced. AMD is commonly treated with an intravitreal injection which doesn’t hurt, thanks to the application of topical anesthesia. There are many types of medical injections that can be used and many provide effective results in keeping the condition at bay. Other forms of treatment, such as scleral buckle, is a silicone buckle used to directly treat retinal detachments. Other conditions are treatable with surgery or Vold Vision’s advanced micro-pulse green diode laser which eliminates the issue of blind spots. Laser photocoagulation like this is commonly used, with Vold’s pinpoint accuracy, to also treat retinal tears and detachments or diabetic retinopathy. Other types of retinal treatments include cryotherapy and ultrasonography.
