Dr. Emma Holden

Optometrist

As an optometrist, Dr. Emma Holden is pleased to be part of the Vold Vision team in Northwest Arkansas, focusing on pediatric eye exams and preventative health.

Meet Dr. Emma Holden

Dr. Holden enjoys creating lifelong connections with her patients and their families. As they take a break from their screens and daily routines for their appointments, Dr. Holden listens to each patient’s needs and concerns so she can improve their ocular health, vision, and overall wellbeing.

One of Dr. Holden’s focuses when working with her patients is preventive health care. She takes the time to educate each patient on their ocular health and the connection to their greater systemic health by checking for the early signs of high blood pressure, diabetes, and multiple sclerosis during an eye exam.

She also provides nutritional advice that may strengthen their eyes and help them avoid future problems.

When she’s not busy taking great care of her patients, Dr. Holden loves hitting the trails with her adorable Australian shepherd Vaughan, fly fishing, cooking, seeing live music, collecting vinyl records, and calling the hogs.

Dr. Holden is an optometrist with a special interest in pediatrics, eye care for diabetics, and primary eye care optometry. She also has experience with infant eye exams, vision therapy, treating low vision, and diagnosing and treating glaucoma and other ocular diseases. She also wrote a research paper, “Corneal Vault and Higher-Order Aberrations in Scleral Contact Lenses,” about her interest in specialty contact lenses. Dr. Holden feels blessed to live in and serve the Northwest Arkansas community.

She enjoys educating her patients on their eye health and showing them how it relates to their overall health and wellness. She offers her patients ways to improve their vision with proper nutrition and other preventive methods, such as lowering high blood pressure and managing diabetes.

Dr. Holden earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Denver in Colorado with a major in biology and minors in chemistry, physics, and anthropology. After this, she earned her doctorate of optometry (OD) from Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry (NSUOCO). While she attended NSUOCO, she rotated through the Cherokee Nation Rural Eye Clinics in Oklahoma, working heavily with an uncontrolled diabetic population.

Dr. Holden is exceptionally passionate about working with underserved communities, especially Native Americans, as her grandmother was full Shawnee. She then went on to perform an externship at McDonald Eye Associates in Fayetteville, AR. In addition to her formal education, Dr. Holden continues to learn about new techniques and technologies. She is certified in laser therapy for the anterior segment and surgical procedures for the optometric physician.
