Clear Lens Exchange

Clear Lens Exchange (CLE) can be an absolute game changer for patients in their mid-40s and beyond who want to live free from contacts and glasses. CLE allows them to live with a full range of vision, up close, intermediate, and far away, without depending on readers, contacts, or glasses.

What do you look forward to the most? Seeing your phone, going to the gym, or enjoying a sporting event without glasses? At Vold Vision, we call it “My Why.” Whatever your reason, our Clear Lens Exchange allows you to live a new life.

Clear Lens Exchange replaces your eye’s clear natural lens with the PanOptix® intraocular lens to correct your refractive error and achieve sharper focus, reducing your need for reading glasses or bifocals.

Vold Vision uses the revolutionary PanOptix® Lens for our CLE to achieve our patients’ most precise and highest definition results. Our CLE experience is simple, seamless, and comfortable, allowing patients to see clearly in a short amount of time, sometimes in minutes.

Clear lens exchange is an outpatient procedure, only taking a few minutes to complete in the hands of our skilled surgeon. One of our trained practitioners will use eye drops and an IV to prepare you for surgery to prevent discomfort.

The surgery takes approximately five minutes per eye for the incision, removing and replacing the lens in your eye. You’ll attend a follow-up appointment the next day to check your progress. We at Vold Vision utilize cutting-edge technology, taking safety and efficacy to the absolute highest levels.

Clear Lens Exchange allows patients to see more clearly in their old age without using glasses or contacts. Some of the benefits of Clear Lens Exchange include:

  • No eye strain
  • Clearer, brighter vision
  • No more astigmatism
  • No more readers, contacts, or glasses
  • Surgery one to two weeks after the initial consultation
  • Takes less than 15 minutes
  • Quick, 24-hour recovery

After your surgery, Dr. Vold suggests no contact sports, swimming, or eye makeup for one week. You may return to most activities within 24 hours, but full 20/20 vision may take one to two weeks.

The artificial intraocular lens is a permanent replacement for your natural lens and is designed to last the rest of your life. There is minimal risk of regression (loss of corrective effect or deterioration of vision) over time. Since CLE replaces your natural lens with a synthetic one, CLE negates the patient from ever developing cataracts.

For those who are not candidates for laser eye surgery, CLE may be a viable option to provide permanent vision correction. If you are over 40 and are nearing or experiencing presbyopia (the need for reading glasses), CLE will help you see at a distance, up close, and intermediate, offering a full range of vision.

In a clinical study, 129 patients were asked about their experience with the PanOptix® Lens, and 99% of people said they would choose the same lens again. CLE offers excellent results and very low risks. A thorough evaluation by our specialists determines if the patient is a recommended candidate for CLE.

Clear Lens Exchange FAQ

No. Unlike contact lenses, the lens does not sit on the eye’s surface but inside the eye.

No, you will not develop cataracts after having a clear lens exchange. Since it replaces your lens with a synthetic version, CLE negates the patient from developing cataracts.

LASIK will only correct for distance vision for patients over 40 who are nearing or experiencing presbyopia (the need for reading glasses), while CLE will help the patient see at a distance, up close, and intermediate, offering a full range of vision.

LASIK is an excellent option for most patients; however, as we age, we all will develop cataracts, so someone who has had LASIK will have to reinvest when their cataracts begin to form. With our CLE procedure, you will never develop cataracts, so you are investing in your eyes for life.

Lens surgery is the most commonly performed surgery in the U. S. and arguably one of the safest procedures today, exceeding 99% in most clinical studies. In the clinical study on the PanOptix lens, 99% of people with this lens would choose it over again.

As with any surgery, CLE involves a degree of risk. Every patient considering CLE is encouraged to research the procedure independently. Our doctors give patients any information regarding those risks and answer any questions.

Patients may see some glare and halos around lights after the procedure. Most patients adapt, and it becomes a non-issue within a few months.
