How Long Does LASIK Last?

Glasses and contact lenses improve vision but limit activities wearers can participate in. If you are tired of relying on temporary aids for your sight, LASIK is an option to improve your vision permanently.

What is LASIK?

LASIK is a refractive procedure commonly used to correct vision problems. Due to its early entry into the field, LASIK is one of the most recognizable laser eye correction methods. We use the Zeiss VisuMax® Femtosecond Laser with a SMART bed feature at Vold Vision.

The SMART bed senses your movement and stops the laser to ensure precise eye correction. The Zeiss VisuMax® is a gentle laser, so patients only feel slight pressure while it reshapes the cornea.

How Long Does LASIK Last?

LASIK is a vision correction procedure with most patients enjoying results for up to 10 years with little or no change. While you can enjoy the results for years, your prescription may change over time as myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism continue to adjust your vision.

Presbyopia, a natural eye condition that causes your lens to become less flexible over time, may also change your vision as you age. LASIK is not an appropriate treatment for presbyopia, but Vold Vision offers several highly effective solutions.

How Long is Recovery from LASIK?

After surgery, your vision may remain blurry for a few hours. You’ll need someone else to drive you home. Most patients experience temporary discomfort, itching, slight burning, or watery eyes afterward. You may be provided with an antibiotic prescription and anti-inflammatory drops to use for a few weeks.

We recommend resting and using sunglasses for bright light protection. Most patients’ vision returns to normal within a day or two, with continual improvement over two weeks. After two weeks, you may return to participating in swimming and contact sports. A personal liaison will answer any questions you may have during your recovery.

Am I a Candidate for LASIK Surgery?

Before surgery, Vold Vision conducts extensive eye exams to determine if you are a candidate for our various vision correction procedures. Our doctors develop a treatment plan based on the results to help you achieve the best results possible.

To receive LASIK, you must be 18 or older with healthy eyes and a stable prescription for at least a year. For the best results, patients need to be able to maintain a fixed stare for two minutes.

At Vold Vision, we use state-of-the-art technology to treat various eye conditions and higher prescriptions. If you were not a candidate at a different eye center, you might still be eligible for LASIK eye surgery at Vold Vision.

Had Lasik here yesterday. Process was easy, pretty much painless, and quick. I’m on the day after and I feel pretty much no pain or irritation. Haven’t had the need for glasses or eye strain yet! It’s not perfect 20/20 on first day, but it’s pretty close! It should smooth out and get only better over the next few months, not to mention I had awful astigmatism prior!
