How Much Does LASIK Cost?

Imagine seeing the world more clearly with a safe, effective treatment that only takes a few minutes. LASIK can correct vision problems with minimal recovery time. If you have considered LASIK, you may have questions about the cost. With available financing, LASIK is more affordable than you might think.

What is LASIK?

LASIK stands for laser-assisted in situ keratomileuses. It targets the cornea, the clear structure at the front of your eye that helps focus light. Light entering the eye at the wrong angle does not create a clear image. LASIK reshapes the cornea so that it directs light to focus correctly. This reshaping can improve astigmatism, nearsightedness, and farsightedness.

How Much Does LASIK Cost?

LASIK costs can vary widely. The average procedure will cost between $1,000 and $4,000. Factors that affect your final price include:

  • Your location and cost of living in the area
  • Your surgeon’s skill, experience, and type of lasers
  • The details of your treatment
  • The cost of follow-up visits, eye drops, and other expenses, if not included

If you are considering LASIK eye surgery, keep in mind that LASIK providers who offer unusually low prices may add other costs later. At Vold Vision, you will always receive an accurate estimate with no surprises. We also assist you with affordable payment plans to help you achieve better vision without financial stress.

How Does LASIK Work?

LASIK begins with numbing drops placed in your eyes to keep you comfortable. Your surgeon at Vold Vision will use a laser to create a flap in the outer layer of your cornea. After lifting this flap out of the way, they will use another laser that removes microscopically thin layers of corneal tissue until the desired shape is achieved. They will move the flap back into place with no sutures required. Since the flap is never fully detached from the rest of the cornea, it can heal very quickly to minimize your recovery time.

What is Recovery Like From LASIK?

You will need someone to drive you home after your procedure. Your eyes may feel irritated, itchy, or sensitive for a few days. You will have eye drops to assist with healing and keep your eyes comfortable. Most people can see well enough to drive and return to work in 24 to 48 hours. Your vision will continue to adjust and stabilize for the next few months. You can expect to have follow-up visits to check your healing progress.

Am I a Good Candidate for LASIK?

Good candidates for LASIK want to achieve clearer vision and do not want to undergo a long recovery. Ideal LASIK candidates have healthy eyes and reasonable expectations. Your eye surgeon may recommend a different procedure if you have thin corneas or issues with dry eye.

Amazing, friendly, knowledgeable staff! Dr. Senekal was very professional and had an amazing bedside manner. I would recommend him to anyone looking at getting cataract/laser surgery. I came from Grande Prairie just to see him and his staff!
